METEOS
for DS, published by Nintendo, RRP £29.99

Despite the simple concept, one of the deepest games released for any platform in years. Which makes it a shame that much of the time, you'll have more success just frantically waggling the stylus up and down the screen at random than you will if you try to play the game properly. Puzzle games seem to find it incredibly hard to increase dfficulty as you play without just speeding up until they're completely impossible (most versions of Tetris before and after the Gameboy ones), or making things so random that any skills you might have learnt are largely useless (Zookeeper). Bah. Still, there's so much of Meteos, and it's so varied within the basic concept, that everyone will be able to find modes and levels they like, and just play those over and over.

Deceptively complex and a bit too random, but you'll never be short of a high-score to aim for.
